Power Adaptors

The frequent power failures in many parts of the world have led an increase in the need and demand for power inverters. With a power inverter, it is possible to maintain a continuous supply of power to the connected equipment. The power inverter is also referred to as an uninterruptible power supply, battery backup or uninterruptible power source (UPS).

Power inverters are also referred to as dc/ac power inverters where an electric circuit is responsible for the conversion of direct current (DC) to alternating current (AC). Power inverters are connected between the source of power which is usually the utility power and the load that it is responsible for protecting. Once a power failure occurs, the UPS switches from the utility power to its own power source like a battery pack immediately.

They come in different sizes that range from about 200 VA to several megawatts; depending on what it has to protect. There are different brands of power inverters like the Trip Lite power inverter and the Vector power inverter. Vector power inverters like the MAXX 1000 can be used to protect various electronic equipments.

The car power inverter is an inverter that lets you use your mains powered devices in your car when traveling. All that is required is a 12V lighter socket to plug in the car power inverter where you will be able to plug in any standard 3-pin socket to use any device you want.

If you need a power inverter for large loads, then the air compressor power inverter is the answer for you. The American Power Conversion has managed to build a power inverter that can hold 800 VA of power to power lights, televisions, home theater systems and other equipment using pure sine wave technology.

An adaptor is also called an ac adaptor and is an external source of power for laptops and most portable and semi portable electronic devices. This is like using a portable CD player ac adaptor for uninterrupted listening pleasure from your portable CD player. Adaptors contain rectifiers that convert AC current to DC and transformers that convert voltage from 120 to 9, 12 or 15, as required. If ac adaptors are not used with the electronic equipment, it can be inferred that dc current is created within the unit.

There are also adaptors that can be used in the car to let you take your ipod on the road, and be ensured of a fully charged ipod providing unlimited listening pleasure. This is called an ipod car adaptor, and it is better to buy one that works with ipods of all brands.
