Fuses

The word fuse is actually short for “fusible link”. Fuses are over current protection devices used in almost all types of electronics. The most vital component of fuses would be the metal strip that melts when heated by an arranged electric current, protecting it from an over current circumstance.

Now, the fuse boxes are the old electrical consumer units fixed with fuse wires that we can find in old houses and buildings. The modern fuse box now contains magnetic circuit breakers instead of fuses. A fuse block is also another term for fuse boxes as it is a unit on which fuses are mounted.
Electrical fuses are an essential part of your car audio system. This is the fuse you’ll locate within inches of the battery and it guards your audio system from fire or damage due to overload.

Fuses can be classified into different categories. Size is one fuse classification that is as important as the others. Selecting fuses that are too large will not give the appropriate protection your audio system needs, just as selecting a fuse that is too small may cause many blown fuses. Make sure that your fuse is able to handle the maximum or full power of your audio system.

There are three main types of fuses when it comes to car audio. First is the barrel fuse which can be an AGC or AGU type. This is the most common fuse that is cylindrical in shape. It is the cheapest and it normally comes in packs of four or five. The next most common fuse type is the MAXI or what is known as the blade fuse. This type of fuse is most often found in the automotive fuse block. It is also called MAXI because some fuse holders use large blade fuses. The last type of fuse, which is the least common, is the ANL fuse that is also known as the wafer fuse. These fuses are usually used for high current handling, typically with 100 amps or higher, and they are the most expensive among the three types.

Aside from those categories, fuses are also classified by brands or materials used. Bussmann fuses are the famous fuses created by Bussman - named first in fuses! The Bussman fuse, also referred to as Buss fuse, is one of the leading brands of fuses. Other companies started making their own Buss fuses after Bussman, making Bussman fuses one of the most popular fuse types in the world today. You can find different fuses in the market or online, from a Buss fuse to a cannon fuse to a ceramic fuse.
